The loopholes in school education in rural parts of India are well known. Though enrolment, in general, has gone up drastically but irregularity in attendance, dropping out of students, (especially, in the secondary grades) and poor learning achievements are challenges that still persist. Equally challenging is creating opportunities by overcoming these problems.
Education starts from childhood and primary schooling is the most important phase of a child’s life. Primary schooling plays a key role in guiding a child to become better human beings of tomorrow. It prepares the child to face challenges and opens doors to new opportunities.
Mukti realized the importance of primary education and to increase the interest of the children in education from an early age has established Kishalaya Schools (from class I to IV) on a pilot basis at Purba Sridharpur under Nagendrapur GP in the year 2021. The program is aimed not only to help the poor primary students but also to create an alternative livelihood source of income among the impoverished women, who have lost their livelihood in the Covid-19 pandemic. In this way, Mukti along with the expansion of education is also providing livelihood support to the qualified women in their area only.
Rural schools face severe challenges that are unique to their environment. A lack of parental interest in children’s education, insufficient funding, a lack of resources, unavailability of teachers, lack of study materials, the teacher-student ratio and liaison between them are some of the barriers to effective education.
Mukti is thankful to Ms. MridulaKayal, Ms. Kaninika Banerjee and Mr. Sankar Pradhan for continuing their support to the ongoing Kishalaya School for this year as well.
We value your support that will help these kids to grow further and help the women to earn a dignified source of livelihood in their village only.
