Purba Medinipur district in West Bengal has been one of the worst-affected areas by Cyclone Dana, where relentless rains and gusty winds have devastated vast stretches of agricultural land. Paddy crops, the primary livelihood for most farmers in the region, have suffered extensive damage, posing a significant risk to both food security and the economic stability of local communities.
In Sahara Gram Panchayat under Egra Block 1, nearly 90% of the population relies on agriculture for their livelihood. About 70% of the agricultural land in these 21 villages has lost rice plants just as the rice is flowering, a critical stage where any waterlogging can lead to complete crop failure. Excessive rain has also destroyed vegetable crops, leaving farmers in severe distress.
In response, Mukti urgently seeks support for these farmers, who now face an uncertain future. Immediate assistance is essential to help restore their livelihoods and bring relief to those impacted by this disaster.
