On Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 7:30 pm, the Talented Student Sponsorship (TSS) team organized their monthly online meeting with all TSS students. The main theme of this meeting was career orientation and motivation. Ms. Chandrima Bhattacharya, TSS sponsor from this year and also Associate Professor of Economics at Midnapore College (Autonomous) efficiently conducted the session, focusing on how TSS students can improve their mental concentration and work efficiency.
Ms. Bhattacharya titled the session “Life Lessons of Swami Vivekananda,” and discussed various aspects of his life with the students. She emphasized that while we may all seem equal, the difference between a wise person and an ordinary person lies in the concentration of the mind. This concentration is what separates one individual from another. She stressed that our mind controls all our actions, and by controlling the mind, success in any endeavor becomes achievable.
To achieve this control, she advised the students to practice yoga and meditation regularly, stating that a sound mind leads to physical well-being. She encouraged them to approach every task with care and challenge, focusing on two main aspects: Task (Challenge) and Ability (Skill). By balancing these two, any work can be accomplished smoothly.
Ms. Bhattacharya highlighted Swami Vivekananda’s hard work, concentration, and discipline, which brought global recognition to India. To inspire the students further, she drew parallels with the dedication of Indian soldiers who protect the country through mental resilience and strict discipline. She urged the students to work hard, maintain discipline, and harness their student life to develop and build themselves into proper individuals.
Quoting Swami Vivekananda, she reminded the students: “Arise, stop not till the goal is reached.” She also shared a quote from Dr. Abdul Kalam: “You have to dream. Dream is not that you see in sleep, dream is something that does not let you sleep.”
Ms. Bhattacharya’s presentation of quotes from various wise individuals aimed to mentally motivate the students, helping them understand how to manage themselves and gain control over their minds. At the end of this enlightening session, the students requested her to share more such discussions in the future. She assured them that she would try to conduct another online meeting in future to discuss various topics to enhance their mental concentration and help them stay focused on their goals.
