Cyclone Amphan has led to heavy devastation in the coastal Bengal and the Sunderban areas, leaving behind a trail of casualties. Crops and livelihoods were destroyed. Roofs of houses and schools were blown away.
Mukti in association with “Asha for Education” came forward to restore the damage and help the students to resume their classes.
Purbasridharpur Mukti Support School (MSS):
Amphan caused damage to a number of Mukti Support Schools (MSS). The boundary wall of MSS at Purbasridharpur under Nagendrapur Gram Panchayat and Mathurapur Block II in Raidighi Police Station was destroyed by Amphan. The boundary wall, length was 60 ft and height was 6ft height, got damaged. Added to that, the 10 ft high school gate also got damaged. Both the boundary wall and the Gate were constructed by Mukti.
109 students got benefitted.
Jogendrapur Mukti Support School ( MSS):
Jogendrapur MSS is under Kankandighi Gram Panchayat and Mathurapur Block II. The 61 ft asbestos roof top with frame at the eastern part of the school building was blown away by Amphan. The western side building roof top is 18 ft in length. 20% of that roof got damaged. There is a class room which is 45 ft in length, 18 ft in width with 8 ft width verandah; its 30 % roof top was destructed. 60 % of toilet was destroyed by the cyclone.
After the reconstruction work 162 students restarted their classes.
Uttar Kankandighi Mukti Support School:
The school building roof top is made of tin which is 18 ft in length. Out of that 5 ft 29 inch was reconstructed by Mukti. The doors of two toilets, 30 benches, 6 doors of the school building and boundary fence (108 ft at Southern side and 17 ft at Eastern side) was also repaired by Mukti. Uttar Kankandighi MSS is under Kankandighi Gram Panchayat and Mathurapur Block II.
124 students now can continue their classes.
Barodanagar Mukti Support School:
Barodanagar MSS in under Nagendrapur Gram Panchayat and Mathurapur Block II. 60% asbestos roof top of the old school building was rebuilt by Mukti.
129 students were able to continue their lessons.
