Sundarban Greens: A Quiet Revolution

In the “Sun-G” (Sundarban Greens) project, initiated by Mukti and supported by the “Small Industries Development Bank of India” (SIDBI), a plantation drive was commenced at Purba Jata and Paschim Jata bio-village under Kankandighi GP. This endeavor was aimed at both the greening of the area and the protection of the river embankment.

A 7-kilometer stretch along the river Thakuran’s boundary was designated as the plantation site. On the riverside slope of the river embankment, 220,000 mangroves and 220,000 Vetiver grasses were planted, serving as a formidable natural shield against erosion. Simultaneously, on the countryside slope of the river embankment, 5,000 poles were erected, and 22,000 Dragon fruit plants were introduced into the landscape.

This transformation is not only the result of a commitment to environmental protection but also exemplifies how it has become a source of livelihood support for the local villagers, embodying the harmonious convergence of sustainability and community empowerment.
