The remote areas of West Bengal that was largely remained unaffected in the first wave of Covid in 2020, is now witnessing a rapid increase in Covid cases. The lack of awareness and reluctance to submit to testing and treatment make the rural population more susceptible to Covid. The problem is compounded by the fact that most of the medical infrastructure, especially the tertiary centers, is concentrated in the cities which they can’t access due to huge distance.
Mukti, to stop the second wave of Covid from sweeping the remote rural areas, where the bulk of the population lives had sent oxygen concentrators, medicines and other Covid care equipment. Mukti is not only helping the rural patients but also outstretched the Covid care service for the need of the remote patients also.
One of such villages is Duttapulia in Nadia district. The village is located almost at the border of Bangladesh. Most people of the total population (13, 562) live under the poverty level. The second wave of Covid and the consequent lockdown has made their lives miserable. They are fighting Covid as much as their capacity.
To strengthen their fight Mukti in association with “Sreema Mahila Samity” supported them with Covid essential medical equipment.
We express our heartiest thanks to “Agomoni” who has helped us to fight the pandemic with 2 concentrators, 100 medicine, oximeter, mask and sanitizer. With their support, we were able to save the life of the Covid patients of Ranaghat-II and Hanskhali blocks of Nadia district.
Mukti volunteers are going door to door to serve the needy and helpless. If the villagers need further assistance Mukti will always be their side.
