To increase awareness about the need for menstrual health and hygienic management of periods, Mukti in association with “Aakar” organized workshop and training program for the rural women of Sunderban from 18-21st February at Raidighi. 12 MCDF members along with 3 members of “Kishaloy” participated in the training program.
Mukti is grateful to “Aakar” to create avenues and opportunities for women to discuss their health issues without inhibition and embarrassment and also to train them about how to make compostable organic sanitary napkins.
The objective of this holistic sensitization program was to provide them with know-how on how to handle menstruation, improve knowledge of personal hygiene and boost confidence by answering unanswered questions through interactive and engaging training methods.
On the first day of the 4 days training program, the trainer and the trainee introduced themselves.
On the second day of the program they were provided knowledge about human reproductive system. The female reproductive organs were explained through pictures and models. The trainer explained how and why menstruation occurs every month and that it is a biological system of the body while breaking all the social myths and taboo.
On the third day of the training program they were imparted knowledge how inadequate menstrual hygiene can result in reproductive tract infections, urinary bacterial and yeast infections which can cause serious complications, even kidney diseases if left untreated. Therefore they had been advised to learn clean and safe practices during menstruation.
On the fourth day they were trained to make compostable organic sanitary napkins.
The entire training program became successful as it met and fulfilled the training objectives. The program provided them the knowledge they need in a format that was simple to understand. The feedback of the participants proved the effectiveness of the awareness program of Mukti.
