MUKTI aids 350 Landless Adivasi Families with Summer vegetable seeds in 2019

Most of the people residing in Sunderban are Adivasis who live beyond the boundaries of river and are below poverty line and do not possess adequate land for vegetable farming. They have to struggle for their living. Rising sea levels, increasing instances of floods and salinity of water due to various factors including climate change has made it very difficult for them to grow any vegetables in the Sunderban soil.

To meet their daily living,from 2015 Mukti has rendered service through SAM (Sustainable Agriculture Movement) to support the landless Adivasi families with organic seeds for vegetable farming twice a year. Not only they are helped with vegetable seeds but also with material pot, bucket, sack to grow their seedlings. They are also trained to use organic manure. Mukti continues supporting with indigenous and organic vegetable seeds and seedlings to Sunderban farmers.In the present year, 2019 Mukti aided 350 families by distributing 11 different types of summer vegetable seeds like- chilli, brinjal, snake gourd, sponge gourd, ridge gourd, gourd, Hyacinth beans, pumpkin, red spinach, green spinach and kalmi saag.

Through the seed distribution program Mukti aims to make their future bright and sustainable. Mukti’s innovative initiative has quenched their daily food needs and have brought a broad smile on the Adivasi people faces. Mukti SAM team have made farmers resilient to the impact of climate change by promoting sustainable agriculture.
