Awareness and Career Counselling Programme of the Mukti SURYA Project

The Mukti SURYA Project recently organized two impactful career counselling and awareness programmes at Yogendrapur High School and Krishnachandrapur High School. These sessions aimed to support students in exploring career opportunities, enhancing self-assessment skills, and helping them make informed decisions about their future professional paths.
The first session was held on 31st January 2025 at Yogendrapur High School, followed by another on 7th February 2025 at Krishnachandrapur High School. Both events were designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and guidance necessary for a successful transition into their professional lives.
The career counselling session commenced with an introduction to the SURYA initiative, an effort by Mukti that collaborates with local schools and colleges to empower students. The objective of the programme was shared with attendees: to help students explore diverse career options, develop essential soft skills, and provide information about technical skills that would better equip them for employment.
A key focus of the programme was on skill development, both technical and interpersonal. The students were introduced to various Skill Development programmes and job-oriented courses available under the Mukti SURYA Project, which aim to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and workplace requirements. This included detailed information about available training that would prepare them for the job market, particularly in sectors with a high demand for skilled workers.
The career counselling session covered critical aspects of career exploration, including how to assess personal interests and aptitudes. Self-assessment exercises were a core component of the event, allowing students to evaluate their skills and identify their strengths. These activities provided students with an opportunity to better understand their areas of interest and how to align them with viable career choices.
Furthermore, the session emphasized the importance of soft skills—such as communication, leadership, and teamwork—that are equally crucial as technical expertise in today’s competitive job market. Employers across various sectors increasingly look for employees who possess strong interpersonal skills in addition to job-specific knowledge. As a result, the programme included practical exercises aimed at helping students develop these competencies.
Feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing that the session had broadened their horizons and provided much-needed clarity on career choices. Students appreciated the personalized nature of the programme, where they had the opportunity to ask questions, learn about different fields, and gain valuable advice on building a successful career. The insights provided during the session helped many students feel more confident about their future, and many left the event with a clearer sense of direction regarding their professional aspirations.
