01. Why the Project is?
  • In the Sundarbans region, women are comparatively more at a disadvantage because of societal constraints.
  • Entrepreneurship and empowerment are the only two ways that is believed to enable beneficiaries to take initiatives themselves to overcome their disadvantageous positions.
  • Economic activity is concentrated in the coastal strip, neglecting locally available resources for livelihood
  • Mukti aims to contribute to “Aatm Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan” and “Vocal for Local” initiatives
  • Provides income generation opportunities to villagers
  • Supports sustainable livelihoods, preserves artistic traditions, and protects local environmental biodiversity
02. What the project is?
  • The project SWAS 2.0 is an extension of the SWAS – Pilot project, which aims to offer comprehensive skill-cum-enterprise development training.
  • The project SWAS 2.0 aims to empower and uplift Self Help Group (SHG) women associated with MUKTI by providing them with comprehensive skill-cum-enterprise development training, market linkage support and Seed Grant support in groups to establish sustainable enterprises.
  • This initiative is inspired by the success of the Swavalamban Accelerator in Sundarbans (SWAS) programs which is designed to address critical challenges in market access, product quality, and transportation costs which leads to poverty reduction and economic growth in the target region.
  • Support kits will be provided to SHG members for microenterprises after training.
  • Facilitated linkages with potential buyers or markets through the organization
  • The project started in April 2024.
  • Aimed to empower 2000 (1700 new beneficiaries and 300 existing beneficiaries) SHG members in 6 different trades.
  • 2 local Swavalamban Accelerator Centres (SAC – Matghurapur II and Patharpratima Blocks) and 1 delivery hub in Kolkata for 2000 SHG women have been set up.
  • 1,700 new beneficiaries of ST, SC, OBC and BPL families living with discrimination and deprivations, socially excluded women, Victims of abuse and neglect by social customs, widows and women aspiring to pursue entrepreneurship have been selected for the project.
03. How the project is?
  • We will train 2000 beneficiaries in different trades.
  • Additionally, we were able to help all beneficiaries open bank accounts to facilitate access to loans in the future.
  • The project was managed by a dedicated team consisting of a Program Manager and Project Coordinator, Field Supervisor who monitored the project’s progress on the ground at regular intervals.
04. Where the project is?

Mathurapur I, Mathurapur II, Kultali, Pathar Pratima, Kakdwip, Nankhana, Canning I, Gosaba, Basanti, Jaynagar Blocks in South 24 Parganas District.
