Location: Jhargram District, West Bengal Schools Covered: Banphikuria High School, Manikpara High School & Ranarani High School Duration: 12 Months Direct Reach: 350 Adolescents (200 Girls & 150 Boys, 13–17 years)
Campaign Overview:
In Jhargram, many adolescents face risks such as harassment, early marriage, abuse, and limited awareness of their rights. While safeguarding systems exist, students often do not know how to access them — and boys are rarely included in meaningful discussions on safety and gender equality.
Suraksha Songlap is a school-based initiative designed to create safe, structured spaces where girls and boys learn, reflect, and take shared responsibility for building respectful and secure school environments.
What the Program Does:
Conducts regular interactive sessions using sports, games, drama, storytelling, and guided dialogue
Builds awareness on consent, boundaries, respect, and gender equality
Strengthens girls’ confidence and preparedness to seek help
Engages boys as responsible allies and leaders
Strengthens school safeguarding committees and referral systems
Connects adolescents with Gram Panchayat, VLCPC, ASHA workers, and Police representatives
Expected Impact:
✔ Improved awareness of safety and help-seeking pathways
✔ Increased confidence among girls and boys
✔ Stronger school-level safeguarding systems
✔ Shared accountability for respectful peer behaviour
Why it matters :
A safe school is the foundation of a confident future. By empowering both girls and boys and strengthening community systems, Suraksha Songlap works toward lasting change — where adolescents feel safe, heard, and valued.
