Though a young institution of more than 17 years, MUKTI, a non-profitable socio-economic organization, working for Sundarban people in the Delta region of South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India, has accumulated a lot of accolades. It is registered with the Government of India Trust Act 64, Ministry of Corporate Affairs under CSR form 1, 12AA, 80G, TISS, FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act 1976) and ISO certifications in 2005 and is also supported by 74+ enterprises. Sunderban has been the most underprivileged among the whole of South 24 Parganas district and yet holds a place in the geographical map of the world and inquisitiveness among a lot of people residing out of Sunderban because of its diversity and cultural richness amidst all the adversities. It was in the year 2003 when a few enthusiastic young minds of Sunderban became determined to redress some of the most intrinsic problems involving education and health. They decided to involve the educated and energetic local youth in the various community development projects. These youths gradually started developing the vision and finally laid the foundation of MUKTI. The local people supported them in this quench and the services continued and grew every year paving the way for sustainable development for these marginalized people. The organization has been working intensively in the Delta region of North and South 24 Parganas, West Bengal since its inception in 2003, covering almost 50,000 households, 30,000 SHG women, 3500 children in almost 54 Gram Panchayats. The objective is to uplift the grassroots who are in penury, social exclusion, and myriad discrimination and are extremely vulnerable to climate hazards like strong storms, cyclic cyclones, and frequent dreadful disasters adding to resource dearth, penury, vulnerability, and violence. The organization has provided scholarships to more than 2000 students for higher studies, planted 2.5 lac mangroves, created and provided livelihood opportunities to the local people. The commendable job by the team has been broadcasted by ‘BBC Worldwide service’ and the ‘Dadagiri’ show. The organization has received various accolades like Vivek Samman award, Star of Asia award, Bharat Excellence award, Krishi Ratna, APJ Abdul Kalam award, True legend award by Telegraph, AmiCare award on livelihood. The work of the organization is visible in various national and international platforms and in state newspapers. Today, MUKTI has been able to spread its wings in almost every state and country. Hundreds of volunteers have become associated with us and are supporting our noble cause. Our volunteers are involved with providing expertise knowledge to fundraising and also to work with the people directly in the field. Educational institutions have reached out to Mukti for placements and internships for building a strong foundation among their students entitled to social commitment and values.
