Donate A Cyclone & Flood Tolerant House

Sundarbans delta area is highly vulnerable to cyclones. Each year the destruction due to cyclones is estimated to be around 2 % of GDP. The area has witnessed 4 Cyclones (Fani, Bulbul, Amphan, Yaas) in a short span of 2 years causing severe damages to the houses. The people at the Sundarbans can not afford the Pucca houses, better quality of material, lack of knowledge and awareness. Thus MUKTI along with NABC/CAB decided to create prototypes of Cyclone Tolerant House.

Goals & Objectives :-

1. To provide affordable Cyclone -flood tolerant housing to Sundarbans people.
2. House would be minimum of 350 Sqft with two bedrooms
3. To make sure that people should not leave their home even if there is 15ft of water in the area as every house will have two story building
4. House should stand against 150km/hr cyclone
5. Use of local material as it is more eco friendly and provide boost to the local economy

Progress Till Date:- 

1. Completed Construction of 3 different prototype houses
2. Received applications from 150 families to construct more such houses
3. Construction of 50 more cyclone-flood tolerant houses has started

Way Forward Plan :-

1. Support 1000 housing to adopt the model. Each housing will be getting INR 75,000, Architectural and Engineering support
2. An Engineer and Architectural team will be on site to guide and complete all these 100 houses in a short span of one year
3. New build from scratch and already built house would be retrofitting to confirm cyclone and flood tolerant
4. Creating Livelihood opportunity by means of home stay

An Appeal from NABC/CAB and MUKTI

These deprived people of Sundarbans need our help and support. Due to climate change the Sundarbans faces several challenges. With rising sea levels, islands are disappearing and the increase in the number of cyclones per year is causing massive damage to the life of the locals. The cyclone and flood type situation has left them homeless. It's high time to build a sustainable solution using local material and by employing the local population.

NABC/CAB along with MUKTI has planned to construct more Cyclone-flood tolerant houses in the region for this we need your support. We urge you to take a step ahead and donate a Cyclone-Flood Tolerant house to the needy people of Sundarbans.
