Biswarup Singharoy

I am Biswarup Singharoy, a newly joined intern at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital. I belong to a village in the Hooghly district of West Bengal called Baghati. What can I say about my journey? It has always been a roller coaster. I completed my Secondary and Higher Secondary examinations under the West Bengal Board in 2018 and 2020, respectively. In 2020, one of my friends told me, “Biswarup, you should appear for the NEET exam. You have a great future ahead.” I clearly remember asking him, “What is NEET?” I truly had no idea about the exam until after my Higher Secondary exams. At that time, I didn’t even have a smartphone at home. My mother is a homemaker, and my father is suffering from a chronic neurological disease—Parkinson’s disease. My maternal uncle, Utpal Singharoy, a retired state government employee, supported our family financially by giving ₹10,000 per month to my mother. But as everyone knows, it is nearly impossible to run a family on that amount alone. It was a constant struggle for my mother to manage everything. Coming back to my journey, I appeared for NEET in 2020, the same year as my Higher Secondary exams. As I had no prior knowledge or preparation, I failed—and I failed badly. As expected, many people started doubting my abilities. But I did not give up. I prepared myself for the next attempt, and finally, I cracked NEET in 2021. My struggles did not end there. In my first year of medical college, I scored only 58%, which left me disheartened. I asked myself, “Biswarup, are you here to enjoy, or to become a good doctor?” That question changed me. In the following years, I improved—scoring 69% in the second year, 70% in the third year, and 66% in the final year. I also achieved a distinction in Microbiology in my second year. Today, I have joined as an intern at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital, and I feel extremely happy and blessed. Now, I would like to say a few words about Mukti and GSCA. I came to know about Mukti during my third year through a close friend. I applied, appeared for the interview, and was selected. I may not have many words to express my gratitude, but I can sincerely say—thank you, Mukti, and thank you, GSCA. Receiving more than ₹30,000 per year is a true blessing for a family like mine, where every single rupee matters. This support has made a significant difference in my life and in my family’s well-being. My future goal is to become a specialist in Medicine. I will do my best to contribute to society—both financially and socially. Once again, heartfelt thanks to the entire Mukti team, dear Sankar Sir, and my donor foundation GSCA. I am deeply grateful to all of you.
