Mithun Mondal
My name is Mithun Mondal. I am currently working as an intern doctor at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata and residing in the SSKM hostel in Bhabanipur. I come from Gosaba in the Sundarbans, a remote area where opportunities are limited, but dreams can be limitless. My father is a farmer, and my mother is a homemaker. Despite financial hardships, my father worked tirelessly to support the education of both me and my elder sister, who is now married. From a very young age, I had a deep love for studies and always dreamed of becoming a doctor. I completed my education from Class I to VII in a local school near my home in Gosaba. In search of better education, I moved to a hostel and studied from Class VIII to X at Basanti School. Later, I pursued my higher secondary education (Classes XI and XII) in the science stream at Debnagar School, again staying in a hostel. After completing higher secondary, I dedicated one full year to preparing for the NEET (medical entrance examination). Through hard work and determination, I secured admission to SSKM Hospital for my MBBS in 2021, which was a major milestone in my life. However, my medical journey was not easy. From the very first year, I faced significant financial challenges in purchasing books, medical instruments, and bone sets required for my studies. I applied for the Mukti Scholarship, but I was not selected in my first attempt. Without giving up, I applied again the following year. Finally, in my third year, I was selected for the Mukti TSS Scholarship with the support of Ms. Sukla Basak. This scholarship brought a turning point in my life. It helped me purchase essential study materials and allowed me to focus fully on my education. With this support, I was able to perform well in my third and final year and successfully complete my MBBS. I am deeply grateful to Madam and all the members of Mukti, whose support played a crucial role in my journey. Mukti not only supported me financially but also instilled in me a sense of social responsibility. I have come to understand how many people in our society still lack access to proper healthcare. In the future, I aspire to pursue higher studies in medicine and become a skilled and compassionate doctor, dedicated to serving the poor and underprivileged.
