In the midst of a nationwide COVID-19 lockdown in India, Mukti (meaning freedom), a not for profit organization in West Bengal, launches a great initiatives – Serving the Essential Population (STEP).

The Governments of India and West Bengal have declared several programs to extend monetary support to every worker in India. However we believe that there is a gap that we at Mukti can help to fill.

During the lock down days, unorganized sector workers are hurting. Essential People who supply food to your doorsteps, a local mom and pop grocery store in rural Bengal, independent car drivers, ambulance drivers etc. are the most vulnerable to contracting corona virus as they continue to serve people in this crisis.

The STEP initiative from Mukti is designed to support those workers and their families with one time financial assistance if they contract COVID-19 or in an eventual unfortunate death for any of these workers while trying to serve.

Our plan includes:

1. One time INR 10,000 assistance to any worker family that is detected positive for corona virus.
2. One time INR 50,000 assistance to any worker family that dies as a result of corona virus.
