Hello Beta Initiative in COVID19 Situation

Hello Beta initiative in collaboration with NK Realtor helps to procure groceries, medicines, water and other daily necessities for the old people who are living alone in house without much support from outside. Since its inception on 29th March 2020, total 831 household of senior citizen have been served till today (19-APR-20). As world statistics shows these senior citizens are most vulnerable under COVID19 threat, it is our initiative to protect and extend the helping hands.

Background

Coronavirus has given the entire world a jolt. Work has stopped from East to West, North to South. People have started to doubt the future existence of humanity against the pandemic. Rarely used words such as lockdown, quarantine, social distancing have been frequently used these days. People have been asked to stay home. While people are struggling all over the world during these COVID-19 days, there is one particular section of population who are at a much higher risk. They are our senior citizens, our dads and moms. They are the most forgiving people and they are particularly vulnerable now. In order to serve them better with basic necessities such as food, water and medicine, we have launched a program called Hello Beta.

About the Initiative

Hello Beta was created with the purpose of serving seniors, mainly because of some physical and social reasons. Senior citizens normally lack strong immune system so they are more vulnerable. They are likely to have conditions such as heart disease, lung disease, diabetes or kidney disease, which impacts their immune system. It is best if they stay home and avoid outside exposure. But staying home means lack of social connection and information about what to do, where to go and buy food, water and medical supplies and so on. Hello Beta is created to meet such need of elders.

Operating Model

Hello Beta operates with the permission of the local government. The operation has been streamlined to run very optimally. The operation has 4 different legs.

  • A typical customer order begins with a call to the call center. Call center takes different information such as customer name, address, phone #, list of items to order. Customer is given a maximum time to deliver the items. Call center then assigns a delivery boy and sends the order to the boy using WhatsApp.
  • Once the order goes to a delivery boy, the order goes to a group of supervisors for tracking. Each supervisor has jurisdiction over some predefined areas.
  • The delivery team are split into different groups to deliver in different areas. Upon receiving the WhatsApp message, the delivery boy reviews the order with the customer by phone. Once the order is verified, the delivery boys are in charge to buy and deliver the order to the customer. If all the items are not available, delivery boy informs the customer about the unavailability.
  • Lastly there is a management team which monitors the whole operation throughout the day. The management team calls the customers to get feedback. The process is improvised with the feedbacks.
  • Hello Beta program is available to seniors above 60 years of age. This process has enough filters in place to stop abuses. Customers are encouraged not to hoard. Each order has a predefined amount limit.
