Three Phases of Relief and Rehabilitation Program

1. Immediate Phase (Relief)

This is the time when we need to provide basic necessity like cooked food, dry food, baby food, cloths, water etc to feed people who are displaced. This phase may last from 1-3 weeks depending on the scale of disaster. Aila cyclone calamity is now in this phase. We hope this phase will be over in a week or so from today. At the same time there is news that NGO or Government could not reach in many places (gap), where People are starving and fighting hard to survive. So this phase may extend on situation.

We are targeting to cover this budget. Again this may need to revise based on availability of fund.

2. Intermediate Phase (Relief and Rehabilitation)

In this phase we should try to help displaced people back to their home with required help such as food for few days, intermediate staying arrangement, essential supplies like plastic sheets (canvas sheet), start project like work for food, Medical help to prevent diseases etc.

This phase normally start after 1-3 weeks and last for 3-6 weeks depending on the scale of calamity. We are trying to be prepared ourselves for this phase.

3. Long Term Phase (Rehabilitation in real sense)

Here we need to design projects with job opportunity for social development and rehabilitation and at the same time continue work for food and medical help. We also will be trying to improve infrastructure, help for rebuilding affected people’s house etc along with other community activities.

Unfortunately Aila affect is so huge that it needs longer last. Thousands of hater agriculture land is now under saline water, entire community’s livelihood is under a big challenge. We need Government help for at least a year to bring people back to their normal life.

Almost 1 lakh mud houses are fully damaged and more than 10 lakhs are partly damaged. I am not sure, being a part of NGO how much we can do in this period, but definitely will try to do something for a section of affected people.

Here we are designing some effective project and discussing with Government body to take it further and implement the same with their help.

As the Aila disaster still in Phase- I, any fund supported to Mukti as partner organization will be used though all the phases. Every raised fund we are keeping in single pool and spending suitably.

Thank you for supporting Mukti’s mission to serve the low income and under privileged people to foster self-reliant and thriving communities. Together we will create an environment where each and every individual in the society can look forward to have a promising future.
